The countdown has begun for fashion's biggest night of the year! The annual charity event, which benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, brings out some of the most iconic and awe-inspiring outfits. However, in the decades of history, there have been many times when celebrities crossed all the bars of fashion and stepped out wearing attire that was labelled as weird, tacky, and bizarre and made you question their style and designer's creativity.

If we recall, Kim Kardashian, who is known for her breathtaking look, became the talk of the internet for her all-black Balenciaga look. Or Priyanka Chopra's dramatic hair look with a cage crown.

Ahead of the 2023 Met Gala on Monday, May 1, here we revisit all the weird, shocking, and daring outfits that celebrities have worn to the fundraising event.

Kim Kardashian

The Met Gala, when Kim Kardashian's style was inspired by Kanye West, to say at least. In 2021, the fashion mogul walked the Met Gala in the most outlandish attire. From head to toe, Kim was covered in a Balenciaga ensemble. Her outfit was designed by Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia and featured a black tunic with bell sleeves, leggings, black heels, black gloves, and a face-covering headpiece.

Kim, who has been considered a fashion trendsetter, triggered a meme fest on social media, and all thanks go to her bizarre black look.

Iman

If we look back at the 2021 Met Gala, the one outfit that stole the show was that of the Iman. The supermodel model wore an extravagant outfit that came from a collaboration between Harris Reed and Dolce & Gabbana.

Her outfits featured a custom-made golden brocade bustier with matching trousers. To make the dress Met Gala-worthy, they added a feather cage skirt. And matching it, they added a jaw-dropping headpiece that gave off goddess vibes.

Beyonce

Regarded as Madonna's most controversial look. For the 2016 Met Gala, the pop star, who is known for her daring looks, raised eyebrows as she showed up in a sheer black bodysuit by Givenchy.

Her cutout dress, which she paired with knee-high boots, revealed her chest area and backside with a lace overlay. Her outfit faced backlash for being too revealing.

Rihanna

Rihanna had been ruling the Met Gala red carpet for a decade now, but sometimes she showed up in attire that went on to spark memes. In 2017, the singer stepped out wearing a ruffled flower-printed dress from the Comme des Garçons fall 2016 collection.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry attended her first fashion gala in 2009, and since then, every year, the songstress has made sure to stand out with her sartorial looks. Out of all her looks, one outfit of Perry's that will surely go down in Met Gala history is her chandelier-inspired Moschino getup, or we can also call it a candle stand look.

Another look by Perry that has topped the list of the Met Gala's craziest outfits is her cheeseburger look.

Jared Leto

No one can match this level of creativity. In 2018, Jared Leto, who is known for his slaying fashion looks, made everyone's heads turn when he walked the pink carpet carrying a head. The look that was instantly labelled as creepy showed Leto wearing a Gucci gown and walking with a head that was an exact replica of his face.

Ezra Miller

One pair of eyes is not enough for Ezra Miller. The Flash actor, who has recently been in the news for his controversies, shocked many in 2019 as he walked out with seven eyes on his face.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra is known for her stunning outfits. Her Met Gala journey started in 2017, however, her most shocking, or we can say her weirdest look, came in 2019. Following the theme Camp: Notes on Fashion, the Citadel actress stepped out in the most dramatic attire. Inspired by the Mad Hatter, the diva was dressed in a caged silver gown by Dior with feathered detailing and a cape. However, what caught everyone's eye was her afro-curls weird hair style and the crown that she wore.

Fredrik Robertsson's "head-turning" optical illusion outfit. Last year, Fredrick attended the extravagant event for the first time, and with his look, Fredrick made sure that he was all over the headlines.

The Swedish fashion icon made his debut wearing a futuristic outfit by Iris van Herpen.
